Coop Himmelblau: Building the Sky is both a retrospective and a perspective: it stages Coop Himmelblau’s architecture in the form of formal steps.
It sheds light on the existing typological correspondences within several groups of models that have value as examples and form a “matrix”.
The models presented in the exhibition range from simple family houses to projects with an urban dimension. Creation of an architectural OBJECT that symbolizes the agency’s past and present approach.
Coop Himmelbau is an Austrian architecture agency located in Vienna. Founded in 1968 by Wolf Prix, Helmut Swiczinsky and Michael Holzer (who left the group in 1971), the agency achieved fame at the same time as Peter Eisenman, Zaha Hadid, Franck Gehry and Daniel Libeskind in 1988 at the Deconstructivist Architecture exhibition.
