Frank Lloyd Wright est un célèbre architecte américain. A vingt ans, F.L.Wright s’installe à Chicago et conçoit, durant six ans, des projets d’habitations individuelles pour le compte de trois cabinets d’architecture : L. Silsbee, Adler et Louis Sullivan. En 1889, il s’installe en banlieue, à Oak Park, avec son épouse Catherine Tobin.
Après un voyage au Japon et une courte association avec Cecil Corwin (1893-1896), période durant laquelle il développe ses projets de maisons dans la prairie (Prairie houses), Frank Lloyd Wright crée sa propre agence en 1896.
